Good ol’ IBM backpack
by Krishna on Dec.13, 2008, under personal
While I was working at IBM, I got a great laptop backpack as a thanks award. It was well padded, had a waist harness to support carrying heavy stuff while hiking or biking around town. It even went with me to Paris. Unfortunately, it decided to give up this week. And even the magic of duct tape couldn’t rescue it.
Last I checked IBM stopped giving away this backpack as a thanks gift so I have been searching high and low for a way to replace it. Looks like all the stores around here don’t really carry many all-purpose backpacks. They all carry some version of the Veictorinox (Swiss army knife maker) backpacks which look quite good but they lack the waist harness.
After giving up on all the stores around, I finally settles on a Kensington Contour Backpack from Amazon. Just have to wait for it to arrive. Looks like no biking to work till Thursday.

Its good that you got a reward from IBM as i too got a gift lapi bag which was a radiator one and it was a nice rigid material one… would wait for review over the bag you are recently going to arrive..

Actually, they are available once again as Thanks Awards. If you’re an IBMer, check out the site. You’re right, they’re great bags and are very durable. I’ve got mine for 3 years.
Take care

That’s great news. Unfortunately I’m not an IBMer anymore.
Luckily the Kensington Contour backpack is working out very well. It light and has the waist strap to put all the weight on your hips rather than your back so its perfect for biking back and forth to work.
For those looking for this backpack, make sure you get the right version. It seems like some of the newer Kensington Contour backpacks have a chest strap only which doesn’t work as well.
