What we think we know

by Krishna on Sep.28, 2008, under My Fav. TED Talks

While watching TED recently, I came across this very interesting presentation about how we learn concepts and how even tough we think we understand something, we don’t actually understand it. Take a look at this presentation and let me know how many answers you got right.

I’m glad that my parents let me mess around with semi-dangerous chemicals and electrical circuits when I was a kid. Even though I don’t have a formal education in those things, I managed to get 3/4 of the questions right.

Ps: if you have some spare time then stay for the commercial. It’s pretty well made.

More HDR Experiments

by Krishna on Sep.21, 2008, under photography

Caught a cold when I went to Utah. Change in temperature and weather probably got to me. But, that gave me some time to play with some of my older shots and see what HDR’s I could make.

Here is one I took at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. I took the pictures in the early afternoon. Not one of my fav. pictures but the HDR combination looked interesting. Still can’t decide if I like the colors in the original version better than the HDR.

Donut Falls, Utah

by Krishna on Sep.13, 2008, under photography

So here goes, my first semi-successful attempt at HDR photography. I took this picture while on a hike with my brother near Salt Lake City, UT. The falls are called Donut falls. There is a cave at the top of the falls that loops around the water like a donut. I’ll see if I can clean up one of my other pics and post them later.

The following HDR is from the bottom of the falls. Handheld 1/200 sec at ISO 400 auto-bracketed [+1/0/-1] and put together with a cool free HDR program I found qtpfsgui.

Darn Dreamhost

by Krishna on Sep.07, 2008, under personal

After about 2 hrs of trying to figure out why by previous blog suddenly stopped working, I realized that they upgraded the version of Rails that was installed. Since there is no easy way I could see to switch it back, its time to try word-press. Hopefully there is a way to import my older posts…
